From The Archive: Summer of Sport - LSUTV Spotlight

Loughborough University has some of the best sporting facilities in the country and hosts top athletic performances. Over the years, LSUTV has been able to take advantage of these sporting opportunities and create some fantastic content out of them. From Loughborough Gold to Match Report, the students always find an excuse to capture all of the best action.

Some of the UK’s top sports television presenters first faced a camera at LSUTV; these include Ore Oduba, Ben Croucher and Radzi Chinyanganya. All three alumni have gone from presenting student television to presenting coverage at the Winter or Summer Olympic Games. Ahead of the Paris Olympics, we are looking back at some student sports coverage presented by familiar faces at LSUTV.

In these Loughborough Gold clips, Ore and his co-presenter Corrina, report on Paula Radcliffe and Martyn Rooney as they train in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. As well as the elite athletes who train at Loughborough, they also report on the university sports teams who have been involved in a lot of action the week leading up to their episodes. Ore’s passion for sports reporting has led him to presenting Match of the Day: Kickabout, London Marathon and, World Athletic Championships, amongst others.

Ben Croucher went on to present coverage at the London 2012 Olympics and The Football News Show. In recent years, Ben has helped to judge and present the NaSTA Sport award, maintaining his association with student television. Radzi Chinyanganya attended LSUTV’s Alumni Day in 2023 and spoke alongside current students and other alumni on their livestream. He explained that his first ever showreels were produced using the resources provided to him through student media and said that “the amazing thing about LSU Media is that you can think of an idea and you can execute the idea”. At London 2012 he was the official weightlifting presenter and presented coverage for the BBC at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

Currently, Loughborough’s Match Report covers live matches and game highlights. Having streamed multiple Vitality Women’s Hockey League matches and Allianz Premier 15s, LSUTV is never far away from extraordinary talent. The station looks very different to what it was in 2007, with a new logo, new office but the same passion for sport. With many Loughborough athletes competing this summer in Paris, we can’t wait to see more of their sporting content over the coming year!
